The Differences in HDMI Cables
HDMI, or High-Definition Multimedia Interface, is an interface standard used for audiovisual equipment such as high-definition television and home theater systems. An HDMI cable consists of many wires wrapped in a single cable and carries twice the bandwidth needed to transmit multi-channel audio and video. Many different HDMI cables look similar, but they serve different purposes for your TV and other equipment. The differences in HDMI cables can be as subtle as the size of the cable and using the wrong cable for the wrong feature could degrade the picture quality. That is why it is important to know the differences between HDMI cables and when to use each.Right now the technology of HDMI cables supports two types, type A and type B. The A type includes nineteen wires in it’s construction, whereas the B type contains twenty nine wires. Type A is what you are going to see most of the time in the consumer market as that is what the components are capable of using. Type B is primarily used in the movie industry, and not a standard widely used in consumer electronics. Most individuals are not going to notice a difference between the A and B so it won’t matter to them, but some may want to look into the type B if they can see differences, but they need to make sure their equipment will use the type B standard.Another important component of HDMI cables is the different versions available. The first version of HDMI, version 1.0, came out in 2002. Since then, many different versions have been introduced. The newest version on the market is version 1.4. This version has twice as much bandwidth needed for today’s HD components and also introduces support for 3D over HDMI. Using the most up to date version of HDMI is essential to the quality of your HDTV.One of the wrong ideas out floating around is that the price of the HDMI cable makes a huge difference in the cable. There are claims out there that the more expensive the brand the better the performance will be, but reality is a cable that costs $20 is as good a performer as a cable priced at $100. An HDMI is a HDMI is a HDMI, doesn’t matter who makes it.
